The Music & Film Night

A Passion For Motion

Screen Social was born out of a long-running desire to combine our biggest passions – film, music and people. Cinema can be a solitary experience and with it, amazing, fulfilling & life-changing – immersing yourself in that moment, living the on-screen journey. On the flip-side it can also be an inclusive experience, the glue that binds friendships together, a common ground, a love, a shared experience… to some, a religion. If you’re one of these people, you’ll know what cinema means to you.

Screen Social is about talking, drinking, great content, nice DJs, live scores, live bands & coming away feeling different about something. We’re not only talking film, but music videos, animation, experiments, motion design and other stuff we haven’t thought of yet. Our aim is to bring those communities together in one place, screening content that’s new, different and maybe unexpected. We also try to do our bit to support worthy causes by giving all proceeds to charity.

The best thing about it? Getting to know all those hard-working directors, animators, designers, actors, producers and crew who put so much of their passion on screen. We salute you.

Submissions to Screen Social

If you have a film, music video, animation or anything else you’d like to screen at a future event, go to the submissions section. It is a real ‘open-source’ event, taking many forms at different venues, so if you have any suggestions for future events including live acts, films or directors to showcase, we’d be glad to hear from you. Follow us @ScreenSocial ‘Like’ us on Facebook to keep up to date with the next Screen Social…

Cannes in a Van // ‘The Four-wheel Film Festival’

Cannes in a Van is ‘the smallest mobile film festival in the world’. It’s a platform for independent film right in the heart of the biggest and most glamorous – The Cannes Film Festival. We screen submitted films during the 10 days or so the festival is running, right on the Croisette, straight from our trusty Ford Transit van. If you have a film to enter, be sure to keep an eye on our Twitter feed @cannesinavan so you know when we open. It’ll be soon. We will also be hosting the Van d’Or Awards for independent film. Every British Film entered is eligible for these awards and we’re expecting some great coverage this year.

ACCEPT directors James Phillips & Tom Pickard

The directors of ‘Accept’ chat to us about making the film, how they funded it and their experience of entering film festivals at October’s Screen Social in Shoreditch.
DOLLFACE director Louis Paxton

Louis Paxton talks to Screen Social about his experiences making ‘Dollface’, which won Best Comedy at The Van d’Or Independent Film Awards in September 2013. He also chats about funding and entering his film into festivals.

Flash Your Shorts

Screen Social is an inclusive film & music night which gives indie creatives (filmmakers, animators, motion designers) the opportunity to screen their work along side other industry folk.

We love to meet the creative people behind the work and chat about their experiences, influences and ambitions.

We screen music videos, animations, fiction, non-fiction, experimental… just about anything short!

The Van d’Or Awards was an awesome night and a great platform to share our film. It had the biggest audience we screened at yet still had intimate touches. A friendly event where I could talk to and hear opinions of my film from established industry professionals who where there

John Brown // director, Mum Says

I would thoroughly recommend future nights to anyone with even a passing interest in short film and indie film-making
