VIDEO: SATURDAY (dir. Heidi Greensmith)

We’re spoilt for choice here in East London – part of its charm is that small businesses thrive. Whether you’re a creative agency, boutique clothing retailer or artisanal baker, the chances are you’ll probably do well if you set up shop in East London. Yet, as with most high streets across the country, you can’t help but feel the lurking shadow of that supermarket chain over your shoulder, calling you because it’s just easier and cheaper sometimes.

Small Business Saturday wants to “support, inspire and promote” small businesses and we think SATURDAY, a short film directed by Heidi Greensmith (commissioned by American Express), conveys that perfectly. So tomorrow – and beyond, if you can – check out the fresh fruit and veg available at your local greengrocer or grab your next immersive read at your nearest independent bookshop and do your part for Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday takes place on December 6th 2014, you can gather more information from their website here.

Heidi Greensmith is a British writer/director who has her debut feature film, Winter, releasing early 2015.

The small businesses featured in SATURDAY are Fish at 85 in Cardiff, Found in Bath and The Society Club in London.
