LIVE ACTS
L.A. SALAMI
Described as ‘an articulate, melodic, poetic singer songwriter of quality and distinction’ LA SALAMI performs an outstanding acoustic set of lyrical genius, (left) mixing guitar with various pitches of harmonica and a smooth, gentle vocal described as ‘like the application of aloe vera on a sunburned back’ – an artist not to be missed.
TRASH MONEY
With ‘more rock than a landslide’, TRASH MONEY play a rare live set at Screen Social to promote their forthcoming feature length movie – a rock n roll thriller set in and around Camden… described by the band as ‘Michael Clayton meets Anvil’. Their style of ‘fantastic noisy electronic rock’ and catchy punk-pop steeped in irony makes for a unique experience and a memorable night.
WHAT THE PRESS SAYS…
The Guardian described the band in a review as ‘brilliant but wilfully unsaleable’
Mixmag found it “like David Byrne having a mental breakdown”
‘The singer’s great, the classic front man in an old fashioned sense in that he makes you feel really weird and looks mental’ – Noel Fielding
‘Deranged Genius’ – NME
DIRECTORS’ SHOWCASE
Partizan collective SKINNY
From super-cool production giant PARTIZAN, this month comes a showcase from the brilliant Los Angeles-based directing team SKINNY. They release each new video by the means of a happening that underlines the directing team’s commitment to supporting the arts. The music video for Devendra Banhart’s song “Carmensita” – a homage to Bollywood, garnered a lot of public attention thanks to the presence of Natalie Portman. SKINNY’S own cinematic style of direction is powerful, emotive and will get pulses racing at Screen Social.
We also still have some DVDs of amazing music videos by previously-featured Partizan Parisian directors CANADA, to give away on the night so come on down!
DJs
THE SOUND OF FILM
The Sound of Film bring their soundtrack soup to Screen Social every month, with selections ranging from the anthemic to the obscure. There is always something to stir the soul taking you to a place you thought you’d forgotten and something else to hit that euphoric spot in your nostalgia.
COSMO DISCO
A long-time friend and sometime collaborator of Screen Social, Cosmo Disco spins a select set of electro breaks and atmospheric beats, matching the mood of SS content to a tee. Look out for some hard-to-find tunes you’ll want to take home with you. He can also be found playing out on Space Invader Radio.
