Senior figures at Guardian News & Media are seriously considering the end of printing their newspapers, according to one of the Guardian’s most obvious rivals, The Telegraph.
The Telegraph have reported that the publisher of the Guardian and Observer newspapers is close to axing the print editions of the newspapers, despite the hopes of its editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger to keep them running for longer. The story was met with a near immediate rebuttal from both media commentator Roy Greenslade and Rusbridger himself.
The Guardian publisher Guardian news and Media has spent the last few years battling to stem losses of £44m a year and has already said they will axe up to 100 of its 650 editorial staff. As of yet the numbers for the withdrawal of the print product don’t add up, with the company’s rising digital revenues so far only balancing out the loss of print revenue. Read more…
