The story was met with a near immediate rebuttal from both media commentator<a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/media\/greenslade\/2012\/oct\/17\/theguardian-dailytelegraph\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0Roy Greenslade<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/arusbridger\/status\/258568864567287810\" target=\"_blank\">Rusbridger himself<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian publisher Guardian news and Media has spent the last few years battling to stem losses of \u00a344m a year and has already said they will axe up to 100 of its 650 editorial staff.
