Krump<\/strong> is a freestyle dance form popularised around\u00a02001 in the streets of South Central, Los Angeles<\/strong> (USA), that is characterised by free, expressive, exaggerated, and highly energetic movement.<\/p>\n
The originators of\u00a0Krumping \u2013 dancers ‘Tight Eyez<\/a><\/strong>‘ and ‘Big Mijo<\/strong>‘, saw the dance as a way for them to escape gang life and to release anger, aggression and frustration in a positive, non-violent way. This was an opposition to street violence, which was prevalent due to violent gangster activity.<\/p>\n
With the cinema documentary RIZE<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(2006) by the photographer-turned-director\u00a0David LaChapelle<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0Krump has since spread around the world.<\/p>\n
Today, Krumping has world wide influence in dance culture, but it\u00a0still has difficulty gaining acceptance by society as an art form \u2013 primarily, because people don’t understand this dance form and its ‘spirit’.<\/p>\n
