Welcome then, <strong>Freeview Play<\/strong>\u2019s new ad which\u00a0aired last week &#8211; &#8216;Set Yourself Free&#8217; &#8211; telling the story of an evil regime of brainwashing TV sets and our Hero, a blue faced little TV that\u2019s here to save the day\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Introducing the largest development in the brand\u2019s history, Freeview Play <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freeview.co.uk\/articles\/about-us\/press-releases\/freeview-launches-biggest-ever-advertising-campaign.html\" target=\"_blank\">launches this month<\/a>, combining catch-up TV, on-demand services and live television, bringing a greater power into the hands of the viewer and meeting the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/e46dc7a4-b843-11e4-86bb-00144feab7de.html#axzz3nnnSwaCS\" target=\"_blank\">demands of the mass market<\/a>. This new TV campaign includes shorter companion pieces and advert explainers complimented by wider in-store, print and outdoor advertising.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swhype.com\/screen-social\/\" target=\"_blank\">Screen Social<\/a>\u00a0had the pleasure of meeting the\u00a0award-winning animation studio\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelineanimation.com\" target=\"_blank\">The Line<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0back in 2013 when they submitted the beautiful music video for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swhype.com\/easy-mat-zo-porter-robinson-dir-louis-mccourt\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;Matt Zo &amp; Porter Robinson &#8211; Easy&#8217;<\/a> along with the\u00a0BAFTA nominated animation &#8216;Everything I Can See From Here&#8217; into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cannesinavan.com\/film-festival\/the-2013-van-dor-awards-shortlist\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Van d&#8217;Or Awards Official Selection 2013.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Working in partnership\u00a0with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/electrictheatre.tv\" target=\"_blank\">Electric Theatre Collective<\/a>\u00a0this ad brought together a team of over 45 artists at Electric&#8217;s London studio. From concept to completion, both studios needed to bring together their specialist skills in character design, environment design, 3D modelling, sculpting and art direction to overcome a handful of unique creative hurdles. One of those hurdles, quite possible the largest\u00a0being, how do you design and animate the narratives hero when it is essentially a small TV with a screen for a face? Here are some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/141063954\" target=\"_blank\">early concepts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The Story<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em>The film opens on a gloomy town square;\u00a0rows and rows of television sets\u00a0march in formation, blimps shine down spotlights in the distance and red banners read: &#8216;subscribe&#8217;. Amongst the rows of red faced TV sets we find &#8216;Blue&#8217; our hero of the story who escapes and\u00a0meets new friends along the way&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>What We Love<br \/>\n<\/i><\/b>What we love most is the emotion packed not only into the narrative but into the beautifully realised aesthetic.
